NYC Satisfying Your Sweet

NYC Satisfying Your Sweet

Friends,

CityDusk and YourLocal, a new spinoff of L Magazine, have partnered to create a wonderfully delicious foodie event taking place this Sunday, January 25 between 4-8pm.

We would love to have your support in attendance but if you cannot attend, please pass this on to any friends you think would be interested.  This is the perfect event for couples, singles and friends looking to meet new people and have some fun!

The evening begins with a cooking demo at the warm and cozy West Village bistro, Camaje.  Owner/Chef Abby will unlock her secrets from the kitchen and show us how to turn a simple meal into seduction.  Tastings included :)

Follow us just down the street to the Portuguese Wine Shop -one of the oldest
establishments in NYC- where we will be briefed on some of the best and most affordable wines and of course snag a few for our next location.

Just around the block we will break open our bottles and get finger deep in dough at the adorable Milk & Cookies.  Here, we will experiment with chocolates, nuts, coconut, marshmallow & dried fruits in the quest of making the perfect cookie.  While making and baking we'll try out our wine selections.  Our cookie time will be done by 7 leaving us plenty of time to head back to the wine store for optional take home bottles.

Our adorable and down to earth host for the night, Terry Selucky (writer for Time Out NY, Not For Tourists & NY Magazine) will guide us in satisfying our sweet and review the experience in YourLocal.com

It's hard to find just a cooking class for under a hundred dollars but for only $75 you will be cooking, tasting, boozing & cookie baking all in one shot!  We're calling it a Pre-Valentines Day Warm Up but call it what you will, it's guaranteed to be a night of food, wine & friends.

To sign up, please visit www.citydusk.com

Warmly,
Jacquelyn

Cat-astrophe

Cat-astrophe

It was totally one of those days.  I called out of work sick with a flu but really I had the most miserable cramps ever and was too busy renouncing my gender to bother getting up and slugging my way into work.  By noon I was still lying in bed miserably curled in the fetal position calling out to an almost empty house.

Everything was about a million miles out of my reach except for a glass leftover from the night before with just enough stale water in it to get me by until my boyfriend was to come home and play his promised role as Nurse Nicholas.

By my side, like a furry adorable tumor, was Mitten, who helped me sleep the day away.  An hour later, Mitten decided that we, not just he, should get up.  He batted lightly at my face, sat snugly across my neck and thwack, thwack, thwacked his tail hard against my shoulder.

Even Mr. Mitten's jarringly ardent efforts could not make me move out of my "cramped" position.  He decided to take action.  He crawled slowly and quietly on the night stand and quickly put his mits on my water glass.   A sharp and startling CRACK shot me out from my sleepy position and I quickly realized the crime that had just occurred.

Right away I knew I had to protect the culprit, who was trying to slyly slink away, from his own crime.  The last thing I wanted to do was move let alone clean up microscopic bits of broken glass but I knew I could not keep that cat, who had now been demoted to that jerk, from stepping all over it.  So I dropped apathetically to the floor and began the tedious clean.

Once I was close enough, I noticed how interesting and engaging the mess really was.  The splashes of water created a motion like effect while the main puddle picked up a gorgeous outside reflection.  The tiny pools of water spilling out against the sky blue floor created a dreamy surreal quality that I just had to capture. My entire perspective on it changed and even though I still had to clean it up, it seemed less like a chore and more like an artistic endeavor.

Yes, what Mr. Mitten did was almost unforgivable and indeed a huge stain on my day, but I was reminded of an important life lesson that life is really all in how you look at it.  It was pretty easy to change a CATastrophe into a fun and wonderous photo worthy moment.
